Norma Jean Schmidt, age 68, of Janesville, died Saturday, March 29, 2014, at her home. She was born in Madison, WI, on Feb. 14, 1946, the daughter of Theodore and Mary (Sweeney) Atkinson. Jean had been married to James Schmidt on Jan. 11, 1964. They later divorced. She was a material handler for General Motors for 25 years before retiring in 2002. Jean was a member of the Women of the Moose and UAW Local 95.

Norma Jean is survived by her daughter, Michelle (Daniel) Langer of Janesville; four grandchildren: Lee Schmidt, Amanda Marshall, Cory Schmidt, Natasha (Brenden) Schmidt Bouton; four great-grandchildren: Trinity, Draven, Kylee, and Mariah; a brother, John “Mike” Atkinson of Albuquerque, NM; and two sisters, Frances (Theodore “Ted”) Moen of Iola, WI, and Barbara Muetz of Palmer, AK. She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, James K. Schmidt; a brother, Thomas Atkinson; and her former husband, James Schmidt.
