April 4, 2014

April 6-12 is National Volunteer Week, and Home Health United would like to take this opportunity to say a big “thank you” to all our volunteers!

HHU has more than 500 volunteers companywide. Just to give you an idea of how dedicated these volunteers are, in 2013 hospice volunteers made 943 visits to patients, providing 2,653 hours of care and support!

Beckie Herndon, HHU-Hospice volunteer coordinator, beams with pride when talking about her volunteers. “Our volunteers glow with enthusiasm and dedication, always bearing a smile and going above and beyond to help our patients and families,” she said. “It is an honor to work with these wonderful volunteers!”

Our specially trained volunteers perform duties such as visiting with and reading to patients, providing companionship, offering respite for family caregivers, and various behind-the-scenes activities. In 2013, hospice volunteers helped with activities like Camp GLOW (grief support for teens and pre-teens), making final wishes come true for hospice patients through our Granting Wishes program, and supporting the St. Clare Hospice House.

One volunteer uses his guitar talents to play music for patients during his visits! We are honored that our volunteers get such a sense of fulfillment through helping.

On behalf of Home Health United, our employees, patients and families, I’d like to once more say “thank you” to all of our volunteers! Your compassion and dedication are admirable, and we could not do what we do without you!
