Irene Lee Martinson passed into eternal life on March 30, 2014. She recently celebrated her 100th birthday on March 8, 2014, at Evansville Manor Nursing Home, where she resided for the past four years. She was the daughter of Andrew and Alta (Anderson) Lee and spent her early years in the Orfordville area. She graduated from Orfordville High School as salutatorian of her class of 1930, and was the oldest living graduate until her death. She lived in Beloit, most of her life and was well known as an excellent waitress. She was employed at the Beloit Country Club for many years, also at the former Krueger’s Cove, Holiday Inn, Plantation Inn and other food establishments. She was a very talented seamstress and was employed as a sewing teacher at Singers. She and her husband were active square dancers for many years. She was a Charter Member of the former Calvary Lutheran Church.

Irene was married to Herman Martinson who preceded her in death along with her parents; brother, Darvin; infant daughter, Kathryn Ann; nephews: Christopher, Nicholas and Greg Johnson, Vernon and Virgil Lee. She is survived by her son, Ralph (Linda) Haynes of Rockford, IL; granddaughter, Robin (Tony Prestil) Haynes of Beloit; three grandsons: Brian Tanke of Los Angeles, CA, Ben (Cortnie) and Jeremy (Jill) Haynes, both of Rockford, IL; many great-grandchildren; two sisters, Gloria Woodman and Betty Johnson, of Janesville, WI; and many special nieces and nephews.

Evansville Manor for the tender loving care they gave to Irene.

Her family is very grateful to all of you.

Irene’s Funeral Service will be at 4 p.m. on Friday, April 4, 2014, at the BRIAN G. MARK FUNERAL HOME, 1000 Inman Parkway, Beloit, with Rev. Janice Diefenthaler officiating. Friends will be received on Friday at the FUNERAL HOME from 3 p.m. until the time of service. Interment will take place Monday, April 7, 2014, at 1 p.m. at Luther Valley Cemetery.
