Craig Spotlighters qualify for nationals
JANESVILLE — The Janesville Craig High School Spotlighters placed third last weekend in a national show choir competition in Branson, Mo., qualifying them for the national finals in Chicago on April 26.
“The kids gave what I feel was their best show of the year,” Adam Miller, director of vocal music at Craig High School, said. “They have worked incredibly hard this year at not becoming complacent and really have grown each time we performed.”
Miller said the team competed against 11 other teams from Colorado, Minnesota, Ohio, Texas, Missouri, Nebraska, Mississippi and Wisconsin. The Spotlighters were the only team from Wisconsin to qualify for the national finals, Miller said.
The Spotlighters back-up band also tied for an individual best band award at the event.
“We are looking for support from the community financially,” Miller said about the finals. "If individuals or businesses are interested in providing financial assistance, they can call me at 608-743-5193.”
Miller is in his first year after taking over the 72-member choir from former instructor Robert Schrank, who retired after leading the choir for 10 years.
