Did you take time to vote today?

April 1, 2014

I voted just before 10 a.m. today at First Lutheran Church. The polls had been open for almost three hours, and I was only voter No. 39 in Ward 14. With wards 14-18 voting at First Lutheran, my ballot was only No. 171 overall.

By comparison, I was voter No. 391 overall at about the same time in November 2012 and No. 175 in April of 2012.

Sure, it's blustery out there. But it isn't raining, and the sun is popping out from time to time. And you won't have to fight crowds. If you're registered and know your ward, you likely could be in and out in a couple of minutes.

In Janesville, we're choosing three candidates for school board and three for city council. Depending on what Rock County district you're in, you also might get a chance to vote for one of two candidates for a county board seat, as well.

Spring elections are important—municipal, county and school board officials have the greatest chances to impact our lives directly. In the Parkview School District in the Orfordville area, voters face a big two-part referendum. The Delavan-Darien School District has a referendum, as well.

Polls remain open until 8 p.m. Do your civic duty, and cherish your chance to weigh in and make a difference in the direction of your municipal and county governments and school district.
