Joseph LeRoy Harwick, Sr. Janesville, WI (1946-2014)

Joseph L. Harwick, Sr., age 67, a lifelong Janesville resident, passed away Thursday evening, March 27, 2014 at Mercy Hospital & Trauma Center following an extended illness. Joe was born Aug. 26, 1946, in Janesville, the son of the late James and Lucille (Clark) Harwick. He attended school in Janesville, and was a graduate of Janesville High School. He married the former Mary M. "Sunny" Homeyer in St. Louis, MO, in August, 1982. Joe worked for over 40 years for General Motors Corp until his retirement. He was a member of the U.A.W. Local 95. He also was a member of St. William's Catholic Church. Joe was a man of deep faith and conviction. He was very proud of his Irish heritage, and also enjoyed a good discussion on politics! Joe dearly loved the outdoors and camping. He was a very avid Green Bay Packer and Notre Dame football fan! In his youth, he played Little League baseball, and was on the Wisconsin State Championship team. Joe was a devoted family man, and enjoyed nothing more than spending time with them, and especially with his beloved grandchildren! He also loved his pets, whether it be a rabbit or his dogs! Joe always could be seen videotaping and recording his kids' and grandkids' sporting events.
Joe is survived by his wife, Sunny Harwick; his five children: Jodi Ann Janz of Minnesota, Joseph L. (Tasha) Harwick, Jr., Jenny (Scott) Erickson, Garrik (Jackie) Harwick, and Jeremy (Beth) Harwick, all of Janesville; his three siblings, James (Susie) Harwick of Florida, Richard (Sandra) Harwick and Judy (Bill) Stewart, both of Janesville; his 10 beloved grandchildren: Gabby, Nick, Tori, Kaylee, lillyan, Colton, Conor, Grayson, Aubree, and Jayden; and by many nieces, nephews, and friends. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother and sister, twins Robert and Ruth, who died in infancy.
Funeral services with a Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 2, 2014, at ST. WILLIAM'S CATHOLIC CHURCH, 456 N. Arch St., with Fr. John Auby officiating. Burial will take place in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Friends may call on Tuesday evening from 5 until 8 p.m. at the WHITCOMB-LYNCH FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, or from 10 until 11 a.m. on Wednesday at the CHURCH.
Joe's family would like to extend their sincerest thanks to the staff of Mercy Hospital & Trauma Center, especially his nurse, Jessica, and to the wonderful staff of Agrace Hospice Care, especially Jill, Erin, and Carmen, for the care, love, and support shown through Joe's final days.
