TOWN OF NEWARK—A 28-year-old Beloit man who died as the result of a crash on Thursday morning was not wearing a seat belt, according to the Rock County Sheriff's Office.

The man was driving a pickup truck that left Highway 81 and rolled over in the ditch, ejecting the man, according to a sheriff's office news release. The truck then hit a tree.

The wet highway is believed to have been a factor in the accident, which led to the closure of the highway west of Beloit for about 90 minutes.

The crash was reported at 7:20 a.m. Thursday in the 9500 block of Highway 81 between Olson Road and County H in the town of Newark.

The man was driving west and had just rounded a curve near Olson Road when the accident occurred, according to the news release.

The sheriff's office no longer releases the names of those involved in traffic accidents based on the county's interpretation of the federal Drive Privacy Protection Act.

The man was pronounced dead at Mercy Hospital and Trauma Center, Janesville. The accident remained under investigation Thursday.
