Donald Chaplo, Beloit, WI/formerly Sharon, WI (1930-2014)
August 1, 1930 - March 21, 2014
Donald Chaplo, age 83, of Beloit, and formerly of Sharon, was called home to be with our Lord and Savior on Friday, March 21, 2014. He passed away peacefully in his sleep next to the love of his life, his wife of 61 years. Don was born Aug. 1, 1930, to the late Bernard and Helen (Trochan) Chaplo in Buchanan, NY. He graduated from Hendrick Hudson High School, class of 1948. Don enlisted into the U.S. Navy in 1950, and served his Country during the Korean Conflict until his honorable discharge in 1954. He married Opal Ahlm on April 19, 1953, at St. Richards Catholic Church in Emporia, VA, and they soon moved to Sharon, WI. Don was a member of St. Catherine Catholic Church for 46 years, until he moved to Beloit and joined St. Jude Catholic Church. He had a passion for truck driving and spent most of his working years enjoying his career. Don loved the outdoors and spent his retired years working at George Williams College golf course. Don’s greatest love of all was spending time with his family. He felt very blessed to have his children and grandchildren all live near him, so he was able to play an active role in their lives. Don’s favorite past time was telling jokes and putting smiles on peoples faces.
Don is survived by his wife of 61 years, Opal Chaplo; his two children, Dennis (Diane) Chaplo and Donna (Jerry) Duncan; six grandchildren: Matthew Chaplo, Joshua (Alicia) Chaplo, Shannon Chaplo, Corrine Chaplo, Jared and Rachel Duncan; two step-grandchildren, Sara and Ian Goessel; his brother, Jerry (Carol) Chaplo; and many friends and family in New York; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, David; and his granddaughter, Lisa.
Don’s Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 27, 2014, at ST. JUDES CATHOLIC CHURCH, 737 Hackett Street, Beloit, with Fr. John Hedrick presiding. Friends will be received on Wednesday at the BRIAN G. MARK FUNERAL HOME, 1000 Inman Parkway, Beloit, from 5 until 7 p.m. and again on Thursday at the CHURCH from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Interment will take place at 2 p.m. at St. Catherine Cemetery in Sharon. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to St. Jude Catholic Church in Don’s name.
