Your Views: Wisconsin bill limiting early voting a reminder of Jim Crow laws
Our governor and tea-party legislators are at it again as they want to pass a bill that will limit early voting hours. As usual, this type of bill is being sponsored by Sen. Glenn Grothman, R-West Bend.
The impression is that this type of bill has elements of racism, exclusionism and voter suppression. Why do we want to make it more difficult for people to vote? These types of voter-suppression laws are political and partisan.
In the past, laws that restricted voting were known as Jim Crow laws. Are we trying to go back to the 1950s? Have we forgotten about all the people in the 1960s who made sacrifices so people can vote?
Wisconsin has a lengthy history of trying to make it possible for as many people as possible to vote. What a waste of time when our governor and legislators should be concentrating on job creation. Aren’t they aware that Wisconsin is 35th in job growth? Where is the concern and help for our fading middle class and the poor?
