Dean A. Bickle, 85, a longtime resident of Beaverton, OR, died Sunday, March 9, 2014, in Forest Grove, OR. Dean was born on April 10, 1928, to the late Clair and Bona Bickle, in Janesville, WI, where he was raised and received his education. He was a veteran of World War II, joining the United States Navy at the age of seventeen; bringing him to Oregon, where he met his future wife, Shirley Lee Ray. They were married on July 30, 1947, in Tacoma, WA. They made their home in Beaverton, Oregon. Dean worked as a diesel mechanic, retiring from Consolidated Freightways in 1990. Among his special interests he enjoyed working on cars and traveling. He also had a special love for the outdoors, fishing, hunting and gardening.
Dean is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Virginia “Ginny” and Allan Ford of Aloha, OR; three brothers and a sister-in-law: Dale Bickle of Madison, WI, David and Mary Bickle of Janesville, WI, and Delton Bickle of Janesville; two sisters, Leora Stavn of Janesville, and Lois Lucey of Sun City, AZ. Also surviving are three grandchildren and their spouses: Michael and Kristin Ford of Rock Creek, OR, Chris and Jaclyn Ford of Scappoose, OR, and Stephen and Amanda Ford of Forest Grove, OR; four great-grandchildren: Payton, Cole, Kylah, and Jaxson, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Dean was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley in 1994; son, Steve Bickle in 1978; brother, Don Bickle; and sister, Bona Deegan.
Private Cremation Rites will be held at Hoyt Crematory in Forest Grove.
