ORFORDVILLE--A 25-year-old Orfordville man suffered serious injuries after being thrown from a vehicle Thursday on County K near Highway 213 in the town of Spring Valley.

The accident happened about 9 p.m., and units from the Rock County Sheriff's Office, Orfordville Police Department and Orfordville Fire/EMS, as well as a critical care doctor, were dispatched, according to a news release from the Rock County Sheriff's Office.

Upon arrival, they found a 1994 Dodge Spirit driven by a 39-year-old Brodhead man in the road. The passenger in the vehicle, the 25-year-old Orfordville man, had been ejected and was found several yards away from the vehicle. He was taken to Mercy Hospital and Trauma Center in Janesville, where he was in serious condition.

The driver also was transported with minor injuries, according to the release.

The sheriff's office no longer releases the names of those involved in traffic accidents based on the county's interpretation of the federal Drive Privacy Protection Act.

An accident reconstruction team determined the vehicle was southbound on County K when it went out of control after cresting a hill.  The vehicle crossed the northbound lane, entered a ditch, hit a drainage culvert and overturned several times before coming to rest in the middle of the road.

The passenger was not wearing his seat belt, and speed appears to be a factor in the crash, according to deputies.

The driver was cited for speed too fast for conditions, operating a motor vehicle while suspended, non-registration of a vehicle and operating a motor vehicle without insurance. Additional charges may be added.

County K was closed for several hours as deputies investigated and cleared the accident.
