JANESVILLE—A man possibly armed with a handgun robbed a Janesville restaurant Wednesday night and got away with an undisclosed amount of money.

Janesville Police Sgt. Brian Vaughn said a white male entered Taco John's, 2821 Milton Ave., about 9:20 p.m. and handed the clerk a note saying the store was being robbed and asking for cash. The robber then opened his coat to reveal what was possibly a handgun in his waistband, Vaughn said.

The clerk handed over an undisclosed amount of money, and the robber fled west on foot.

A dog search was ineffective, and video surveillance is inconclusive at this point, he said.

The robber is described as being about 5 feet 10 inches tall with a thin build, Vaughn said. He was wearing a blue winter-style beanie, a blue hooded sweatshirt, light blue jeans and a brown belt.

He was also wearing a gold watch, Vaughn added.

The robbery remains under investigation.
