Cops on the lookout this weekend
JANESVILLE—Starting Friday, law enforcement agencies in Rock County will be deploying extra patrol personnel on streets, highways and interstates with an eye out for impaired drivers who may have over-celebrated the St. Patrick's Day holiday.
According to a news release from the Rock County Sheriff's Office, agencies involved in the grant-funded deployment include Janesville police, Beloit police, Edgerton police, town of Turtle police, town of Beloit police, Rock County Sheriff's Office and the Wisconsin State Patrol.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, an average of one alcohol-impaired-driving fatality occurred every 51 minutes in 2012. The agency also said that on St Patrick's Day alone, more than one-third of motor vehicle fatalities were attributable to impaired driving.
