Janesville police to increase patrols for St. Patrick's Day weekend
JANESVILLE—St. Patrick's Day is Monday, but some bars are preparing green-themed events all weekend.
The Janesville Police Department is getting ready with increased weekend patrols, hoping to stop drunken drivers from killing someone, according to a department news release.
The goal is safety, not more tickets, but officers will write tickets for anyone they see violating traffic laws, according to the release.
St. Patrick's Day drinking claims more than 50 lives a year in the United States, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
The increased enforcement will be paid for with part of a $35,000 grant from the state Department of Transportation Bureau of Transportation Safety.
