Your Views: Gazette, reporter Marcia Nelesen earn kudos for focus on troubled home
I would like to commend The Gazette and especially Marcia Nelesen for her outstanding series of articles written about the house at 173 S. Jackson St. Marcia really did a great job! Her thorough investigations, including interviews with many people involved with the property, was journalism at its best!
First, she wrote the article that drew people's attention to the property and the problems that continued to plague the property for almost 10 years! She also wrote about the frustrations that neighbors expressed about seemingly nothing being done to solve the problems. Most could not understand why this was happening—no fines nor citations for violations!
Second, Marcia wrote about how, by working with the then-Acting City Manager Jay Winzenz, Kelly Mack of Neighborhood Services and the owner of the property, the city levied fines, making it possible in the end for Nathan Bussan to purchase the home and begin reparations!
Nice job, Marcia! Neighbors are looking forward to touring the home when the work is done. We are all waiting for Nelesen's next article, complete with pictures, about how, with hard work and perseverance, Bussan is able to turn a home possibly destined for condemnation back into a neighborhood pearl!
I would also like to thank Greg Peck for the editorial he wrote about Nathan Bussan's wonderful history of transforming and preserving historic homes in the area!
