This community owes Wanda Sloan, diversity director of Blackhawk Technical College, a huge thank you for once again arranging a fantastic Soul Food luncheon followed by the film “Looking for Booker: A Mississippi Story.”

The author/granddaughter of Booker Wright led the discussion after this unsettling film of life in the rural South during the civil rights struggle. Ms. Sloan heard Yvette Johnson speak of her grandfather on National Public Radio and tucked away the idea to invite her to Wisconsin. Ms. Johnson concluded her five-campus tour at BTC on Wednesday evening, Feb. 26.

Thank you, Ms. Sloan, for providing this educational opportunity that generated a lively race/class discussion. Please keep up this important work.
