Man arrested in Edgerton for gun charge sentenced Thursday

MADISON — Aneudy Benitez-Martinez, 33, a citizen of the Dominican Republic, was sentenced Thursday to 21 months in prison for illegally re-entering the United States and being a felon in possession of a firearm, according to a news release from the office of U.S. Attorney John W. Vaudreuil.

The incident occurred on August 22, 2013 when Benitez-Martinez was arrested in Edgerton for illegally re-entering the United States, according to the news release. During the arrest, officers found a .44 Magnum revolver in his home, according to the release.

In a post-arrest interview, Benitez-Martinez admitted to illegally re-entering the country and possessing a firearm, according to the release. He has a prior felony conviction for distribution of cocaine from the state of Oklahoma, according to the release.

He was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Lynn S. Adelman. Benitez-Martinez pleaded guilty to the charges on November 13, 2013, according to the release.
