Your Views: CVS deserves applause for halting tobacco sales
CVS Caremark pharmacies took a bold stance Feb. 5 by announcing they will cease selling tobacco products in their stores by Oct. 1, 2014.
When I first heard the news about CVS’ decision, I was very proud of this decision to do the right thing. Already I have heard of people switching to CVS because of this decision. This is wonderful timing with the 50th anniversary of the surgeon general’s report on the deadly effects of tobacco use.
Hopefully other retailers will follow the example set by CVS. By no longer selling tobacco products, the company has shown that it strongly believes in its purpose to “help people on their path to better health” and in the company values of innovation, collaboration, caring, integrity and accountability.
Next time you visit your local CVS pharmacy, remember to say thanks for no longer selling tobacco products.
