Update: Milton woman killed in Highway 59 crash identified
TOWN OF LIMA—Authorities say a Milton woman was killed and a man was seriously injured in a two-vehicle crash that shut down Highway 59 east of Milton on Wednesday afternoon.
The Rock County Coroner's Office on Thursday identified the woman as Teagan Kathleen-Jee Nolan, 19, of 5837 N. Violet View Drive, Milton.
According to a release from Rock County Sheriff's Office, sheriff's deputies and medics from Janesville and Whitewater fire departments were called to a two-vehicle crash about 12:48 p.m. Wednesday at Highway 59 near East Gould Road in the town of Lima.
Police said a Chevrolet Lumina car and a Ford Econoline Van had collided in the roadway, and the car's driver, Nolan, was dead at the scene.
A 56-year-old Whitewater man who was driving the van was flown by emergency helicopter to Mercy Hospital and Trauma Center, Janesville, where he was listed in serious condition late Wednesday, police said. A passenger in the van, a 63-year-old man, was treated at a hospital for minor injuries.
The sheriff's office is no longer releasing the names of those involved in traffic accidents for fear of violating federal privacy law.
A crash reconstruction by the sheriff's office showed Nolan's car was eastbound on Highway 59 and on a curve at East Gould Road when she lost control and began to slide into the ditch, then spun back onto the road and into the westbound lane. Nolan's car was then struck by the man's van, which was traveling west on Highway 59.
The woman was not wearing a seat belt during the crash, and speed and road conditions appear to have been factors in the accident, the sheriff's office said.
The crash left Highway 59 closed in both directions for several hours while crews worked at the scene.
