UW-Whitewater goes dancing
WHITEWATER--The Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tournaments didn’t go well, but the UW-Whitewater men’s and women’s basketball teams had enough on their regular-season resumes to earn Division III NCAA tournament bids.
The Warhawk men’s squad earned an at-large bid in the 62-team tournament with a 23-4 overall record.
Coach Pat Miller knew his team would get a bid despite losing in Sunday’s WIAC tournament championship game at UW-Stevens Point.
The Warhawks will host the first two rounds of play.
Whitewater plays Northwestern (Minn.) on Friday at 7:30 p.m. in Kachel Gymnasium. St. Thomas (Minn.) plays Augustana (Ill.) in Friday’s first game at 5:30 p.m.
The winners meet Saturday at 7 p.m. with the winner advancing to the Sweet Sixteen.
Whitewater and Northwestern (Minn.) met during the Warhawks’ run to the national title in 2012. The Warhawks beat the Eagles 83-68.
The UW-Whitewater women’s team earned its seventh straight NCAA Division III tournament bid.
The Warhawks (22-4) travel to the University of St. Thomas for the first two rounds.
Whitewater plays Concordia-Moorhead (Minn.) on Friday at 5:30 p.m. St. Thomas plays Loras at 8 p.m. in the second game.
The winners play at 7 p.m. Saturday for a berth in the Sweet Sixteen.
