Jets complete pivotal sweep
The Janesville Jets’ offense erupted over a span of 8 minutes 3 seconds on Saturday night.
Janesville scored four straight goals to close out the game and a two-game sweep of the Springfield Jr. Blues, winning 5-3 at the Janesville Ice Arena.
Springfield took a 2-1 lead into the third and added another goal at 7:59 of the final period on the power play.
The Jets began mounting their comeback less than four minutes later when Minnesota commit Robin Hoglund made it 3-2 with a goal at 11:57. Less than two minutes later, AJ Duggan found the back of the net to tie it, 3-3.
Janesville wasn’t done there. Tyler Rehm, who had an assist on Hoglund’s goal, gave the Jets their second lead of the night with less than four minutes left.
Jordan Himley put the Blues away for good with an empty-netter in the final minute, and goalie Logan Halladay got his second win in as many days by making 21 saves. Alex Smith had three assists.
It was a pivotal sweep for the Jets, who have reached the final 10 games of their season and pulled a game above .500 at 24-23-3. They also moved two points ahead of Springfield and Soo for the final playoff spot in the NAHL North, and Janesville has a game in hand on both teams.
The Jets will continue their playoff push at Johnstown in a two-game series that begins Friday night.
