Warren "Chip" Clinton Schunk, Evansville, WI (1920-2014)

Warren "Chip" Clinton Schunk passed away on Saturday, Jan. 11, 2014, after staying one day at the Agrace HospiceCare in Fitchburg, WI. He was 93 years old. He was born on Nov. 3, 1920, in Menomonee, WI, to Raymond and Pyrle (Snyder) Schunk. He served in the United States Army for four years. He made seventeen trips across the Atlantic Ocean carrying supplies to the troops in Europe, and serving as a medic for the returning solders that were wounded. He worked as a telephone lineman for several years with TDS out of Verona, WI, and retired in 1982; Yes, he was still climbing poles at 62 years of age! He loved to cook, bake pies and cookies, garden, make wood, read, catch and release fishing at his cabin in Rhinelander, WI, pick fruit at an orchard in Florida, and travel. He took many trips with his wife and sisters-in-law, Bev Manson and Sue Dobson, along with his brother-in-law, Tom (Linda) Hilts. He was fortunate to go on the Badger Honor Flight to Washington D.C., in the fall of 2011. He was so proud and impressed with all the wonderful people that volunteered their time to make that trip so special. No one ever told him "Thank you for serving" before. He wore his Red Hat everywhere. Warren was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Evansville.
Warren was married to Helen Painter for thirty five years, She preceded him in death in 1979. He had three sisters; Janice Bliesener of Sault Saint Marie, MI; and two preceded him in death, Jean Werner and Audrey Rasmussen. He also had three half sisters: Marilee (Robert) Marshall of Sun City, AZ, Fay (Robert) Marquardt of Menomonee Falls, and the Late Jane Rupert; a half brother, Robert (Suzan) Schunk of Hubertus, WI. Warren married Jeanette Hilts Elmer on May 3, 1980. He enjoyed family gatherings with Jeanette's four step children: Rhonda (Jim) Crans of Evansville, Lori (David) Goodspeed of Oregon WI, Mark (Susan) Elmer of Lakeland, MN, and Jeff (Ramona) Elmer of Fairfield, CT. Jeanette appreciates all the support from family and friends, especially their great neighbors: Howard Krueger, Joe and Tracy Ladick, Denny and Karen Reese and Gary Fuchs.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 6, 2014, at ST. JOHN'S LUTHERAN CHURCH, Evansville, with Reverend Matthew Poock officiating. A visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of service on March 6, 2014, at the CHURCH. Memorials may be made to the Badger Honor Flight, Agrace HospiceCare or St. John's Lutheran Church, Evansville.
