EDGERTON—Edgerton High’s boys basketball team made quick work of Clinton on Friday night.

The Crimson Tide raced out to a 17-4 lead and coasted to a 63-41 win over Clinton in a WIAA Division 3 regional semifinal game.

Adam Converse and Jacob Zeimet scored 12 points each for Edgerton (20-4), which hosts Lakeside Lutheran (16-7) at 7 p.m. today in a regional final game.

Playing against Clinton for the second time in a week, Edgerton wasted little time in setting the tone. Brooks Johnson hit back-to-back 3-pointers to start the game, and the Crimson Tide eventually stretched the lead to 10-2 on Converse’s turnaround jumper with 5:10 left in the opening quarter.

Edgerton coach Jason Knott said the quick start was paramount.

“There was a lot of respect from our coaches and players for that Clinton ball club,” Knott said. “That was a team that concerned us because they have some athletes that are physical and aggressive, and if we have a weak spot, it’s that we play soft at times.

“There was no looking ahead for us, so that’s why it was so important that we got off to the fast start.”

Edgerton led 22-6 after one quarter and stretched the lead to 36-15 at half.

Clinton, which finished the season 10-12, missed 20 of 23 shots in the first half.

“They hit a lot of nice shots in the first quarter, and we couldn’t buy a bucket,” Clinton coach Denny Morris said. “They outboarded us and got the second-chance points. We’d have one guy boxed out, but the other would grab it and put it back in.

“We’ve been a good shooting team, but tonight we didn’t have. And Edgerton brought it the first half and played very well.”

The lead stayed around 20 for most of the second half, as both teams cleared their benches midway through the fourth.

Zach Kaminski had a game-high 13 points for Clinton, but no other players reached double figures.

Brennan Deegan scored 11 points off the bench for Edgerton.
