The Southern Housing Consortium is accepting applications for zero percent interest and deferred payment loans for home repairs to eligible homeowners.

The consortium was awarded $2, 422,000 by the Wisconsin Department of Administration Division of Housing last fall, but is continuing to accept applications because assistance money is still available.

Funds are available for the following types of repairs: handicap accessibility—such as wheelchair ramps and wider doorways--windows and doors, siding, roofing electrical, plumbing and heating.

Funding is awarded on a first come, first serve basis.

Eligible low- and moderate-income homeowners may receive zero percent interest, deferred payment loans—meaning homeowners do not pay back the loan until they sell the house or no longer live there.

A completed application must be submitted and will include, but is not limited to, income information, asset and liability information, and information regarding the condition of the home. There is no cost to filling out an application and all information submitted is strictly confidential.

Additional information and copies of the application will be available by contacting 1-800-552-6330 and asking for the Southern HousingRegion. Applications may also be picked up at each town, city and village within the county and at the Walworth County Government Center, 100 W. Walworth St., Elkhorn.

The Southern Housing Region is represented by 10 counties in southeastern Wisconsin, including Walworth.
