JANESVILLE—A Janesville man was in serious condition at Mercy Hospital and Trauma Center, Janesville, after being found in the road with “significant injuries” to his lower body, according to a Janesville Police Department news release.

The driver of the vehicle that hit Ricardo Moreno, 31, at 2 a.m. Wednesday left the scene at Pontiac Drive and Mount Zion Ave., police said.

Moreno was unable to provide officers with a description of the vehicle, they said.

He is the second pedestrian injured by a hit-and-run driver in two weeks in Janesville.

Darren K. Hayes, 46, of no fixed address, Beloit, was walking near BMO Harris Bank, 2608 S. Highway 51, on Feb. 12 when he was hit by a southbound vehicle.

Hayes also did not see the vehicle, which he said continued south without stopping. He suffered a “substantial injury” to his leg, was able to call 911 from his cell phone but couldn't move from the road until first responders arrived. Police are still looking for the driver of the vehicle involved in the Feb. 12 incident.

Anyone with information about either hit-and-run can call Janesville police at 608-755-3100.
