Wendell E. Matzke, Edgerton, WI (1927-2014)

Wendell E. Matzke, age 86, of Edgerton, died as the result of a vehicle accident on State Highway 11 on Friday, Feb. 21, 2014. He was born on June 4, 1927, in Burlington, WI, the son of Elmer and Myrtle (Raymond) Matzke. He married Roberta Heath on Feb. 18, 1956, in Brodhead. Wendell was a World War II Army Veteran and had worked for General Motors of Janesville for 32 years, retiring in 1980. He was also a part-time commercial pilot and had worked for Roy True Aviation Co. He attended the United Methodist Church of Edgerton, and enjoyed fishing and pistol shooting.
Wendell is survived by his wife, Roberta of Edgerton; a son, Gary (Debra) Matzke of Evansville, WI; a daughter, Linda (Michael) Jones of Windgate, NC; three grandchildren: Nicole (Kyle) Matzke-Sperry of Evansville, Jeremy Jones of Annapolis, MD, and Jamie (Mike) Hill of Maiden, NC; and three great-grandchildren: Lauren Grace, Alexis and Katelyn. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Raymond, in 1942; a sister, Donna Malkow; and a grandson, Justin Matzke, in 1999.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2014, at the D.L. NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, Brodhead, WI. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Brodhead, at a later date.
