HS girls hoops: Big first quarter carries Elkhorn

The Elkhorn girls basketball team got off to a hot start on Tuesday night and never looked back.

The Elks scored 20 first-quarter points on the way to a 46-31 nonconference victory at Edgerton.

Erin Schahczinski had 22 points, thanks in part to 11 free throws, to lead the Elks.

Allison Long had 10 points for Edgerton (5-16).

•  Kenosha Indian Trail 68, East Troy 60—The Trojans struggled at the free-throw line, and it cost them in a nonconference home loss.

East Troy made just 12 of 31 free-throw attempts, while Indian Trail hit 22 of 33.

The game was tied, 43-43, after three quarters.

Katrina Santos had 23 points for the Trojans, while M.E. Dodge had 13.
