Bluebirds' season ends in Waukesha
The season came to an end for the Janesville Bluebirds on Tuesday night.
Zed Dietrich had a hat trick to lead Waukesha to an 8-0 win over Janesville in a WIAA sectional semifinal game.
Janesville trailed 1-0 late in the first period, but Waukesha scored twice in the last two minutes to take control.
“This is one of the few games all year that got away from us,” Janesville coach John Mauermann said. “We had a lapse at the end of the first period and it cost us.
“The biggest difference tonight was that Waukesha put 11 seniors on the ice. We're pretty young and don't have that kind of experience.”
Waukesha, which plays Kettle Moraine for the sectional title on Saturday, scored three times in the second period to open up a 6-0 lead.
“We had some good chances,” Mauermann said. “We put 21 shots on goal, but it seemed like every time we couldn't convert on our end, they would come down and find a way to score.
“They've got a nice team and they move the puck well, but they aren't eight goals better than us. We just couldn't finish around the net, and that hurt us all season long.”
