Trial in 2012 killing of Afton woman begins in Illinois
ROCKFORD, Ill.—Jury selection began Monday in the trial of a man accused of shooting and killing a Rock County woman in 2012.
Kody R. Walsh, 24, was set to defend himself in the trial in Winnebago County Court, the Rockford Register Star reported.
Walsh faces charges that include first-degree murder and attempted first-degree murder. He is accused of killing Lori A. Daniels, 36, of Afton, on Sept. 9, 2012.
Walsh and Daniels were passengers in a vehicle on Interstate 90/39 when Walsh shot her near South Beloit, authorities allege.
Walsh also is accused of trying to kill the driver, Ebert Davison of Beloit, and of firing at police who pursued him later.
Walsh was captured a week later in Memphis, Tenn., after a high-speed chase.
