Whitewater women finish unbeaten WIAC campaign

It's back-to-back conference championships for UW-Whitewater's women's basketball team.

The Warhawks capped off an unbeaten Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference regular season with a 73-53 win over UW-Eau Claire on Saturday at the Kachel Gym.

Whitewater coach Keri Carollo earned her 229th career victory and tied Diane Jones for most wins in program history.

Eleventh-ranked Whitewater (22-3, 16-0) won its 14th straight by pulling away in the second half. The Warhawks led by eight at half but pulled away thanks to a 32-6 advantage in points off the bench.

Mary Merg had a game-high 14 points for Whitewater and Abbie Reeves added 13.

Whitewater is the No. 1 seed heading into the WIAC Tournament that begins Tuesday night. The Warhawks will host a game Thursday against the lowest remaining seed following Tuesday night's opening-round games.

• Warhawk men finish 13-3 after 82-57 win—UW-Whitewater's men's basketball team enters the postseason on a roll.

The Warhawks jumped out to a 21-point halftime lead Saturday night and coasted to a WIAC win over UW-Eau Claire.

Second-ranked Whitewater finished the regular season 22-3 overall and 13-3 in the WIAC.

KJ Evans and Eric Bryson had 20 points each to pace the Warhawks. Reggie Hearn chipped in 17 for Whitewater, which won its ninth straight game.

Whitewater hosts a second-round conference tournament game Friday night.
