Stoughton beat the buzzer and Janesville Craig on Friday night.

The Vikings hit 6-foot-8 Nick McGlynn with a baseball pass from the baseline with 1.8 seconds left. McGlynn caught the ball left of the top of the key, took one dribble, turned and buried a 3-pointer to give Stoughton a 57-55 boys basketball victory over the Cougars.

It was a stunning end to an exciting late-season nonconference game that was postponed twice earlier due to weather.

The teams traded the lead throughout, and the Cougars were down three points in the final minute of regulation.

Senior guard Nolan Maresch hit a deep 3-pointer to tie the game, then forced a jump ball on defense to send the game to overtime.

There, the Cougars took a 55-54 lead when senior guard Jerry Ngobi hit a 15-foot jumper. The clock showed 0.4 seconds when Stoughton called a timeout, but the officials reset it to 1.8.

The Vikings set up the heave to their big man, and McGlynn played the role of hero. He finished with a game-high 17 points.

Mike Murphy had 16 and Maresch added 13 for the Cougars. They close out their regular season tonight when they host Middleton at 7:30 p.m.
