Area HS girls hoops: McFarland pulls even with Whitewater

McFarland raced out to a 20-point lead by halftime and then held on to beat Clinton in a Rock Valley Conference girls basketball crossover game on Thursday.

The Spartans held off a furious second-half rally by the Cougars, winning 54-47 to pull level with Whitewater at 12-2 atop the Rock Valley North standings.

McFarland led 19-5 after the first quarter and 32-12 at the break, but Clinton came storming back thanks to a 17-8 advantage in the third.

Heather Buckler scored a game-high 25 points for the Cougars, who fell to 9-4 in the RVC South.

•  Brodhead 65, Turner 39—Carly Mohns poured in 26 points to lift the host Cardinals to 15-0 in the RVC South.

Kylie Moe had 15 points and Rachel Heller added 13 for Brodhead, which led by 26 points at halftime.

Turner fell to 6-9 in league play.
