June 15, 1926 - February 14, 2014

Mary Edna Pestor passed away on Friday, Feb. 14, 2014. She was lovingly taken care of for many years by Ann and Harvey Koch, her daughter and son-in-law, along with their daughter, Ashley. Mary was the daughter of Mary Jane (Poffenburger) Copeland and Jewel McKinley Copeland, Sr. Mary was born on June 15, 1926, at Fort Robinson, NE, and the family moved to Elgin, IL, in 1929. She was married to Theodore Pestor of Burlington, IL, in Clinton, IA, on Oct. 26, 1940. Theodore and Mary farmed on the McQueen farm west of Elgin, on Highland Avenue and in 1961, they moved to Evansville, WI, to farm.

Mary was a Boy Scout leader and helped with 4-H club. Her hobbies included sewing, knitting, crocheting, ceramics and cake decorating. Her greatest pleasures were helping and taking care of her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren. Mary was a charter member of the Grace Baptist Church of Evansville, where she sang and had been a Sunday School and Bible School teacher. Most important, she was always ready to proclaim Jesus as her Lord and Savior to everyone she came in contact with. Theodore and Mary farmed for more than 40 years and on the farm Mary was compassionate to pets and animals that strayed to the farm and most recently, she loved Nicki, her Pomeranian dog, who helped her through her elderly years.

Surviving are nine of their children: Carol Smith (Wayne) of Madison, WI, Ruth Heller (Lyle) of Oregon, WI, Theodore Pestor, Jr. (Mary Ann) of DeForest, WI, David Pestor (Sue) of Evansville, WI, Valerie Eaton (Jim) of Evansville, Steven Pestor (Heidi) of Murdo, SD, Suzanne Billings (Brian) of Easley, SC, Mary Jo Enrique (Joe) of Anahola, HI, and Ann Koch (Harvey) of Evansville. She is also survived by her sister, Evelyn Surzyn of Indianapolis, IN; 31 grandchildren; and 37 great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death were her husband, Theodore Pestor, Sr., married to Mary 64 years at his passing; her son, Tom Pestor; her granddaughter, Andrea Smith; and her son-in-law, Jim Eaton. She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Lorraine York, Arita Miller; and her brother, Jewel McKinley Copeland, Jr.

Mary will be missed greatly by her family and friends, but we are at peace knowing she is in a happy place in the arms of her heavenly father.

The family thanks Agrace Hospice – Angie and Amy for their wonderful help and assistance in the weeks preceding Mary’s passing.

The funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday Feb. 21, 2014, at the WARD-HURTLEY FUNERAL HOME, Evansville. Burial will follow in Union Church Cemetery, Albany Township. A visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the FUNERAL HOME Friday.
