Robert H. "Bob" Sweeney, Janesville, WI (1922 - 2014)

Robert H. “Bob” Sweeney, age 91, of Janesville, died Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2014, at his home. He was born in Madison, on Dec. 15, 1922, the son of Paul E. and Gertrude Mary (Condon) Sweeney and graduated from Edgerton High School. One of his accomplishments was that he was Captain of the 1941 Edgerton High School Basketball team that went to the State Tournament. He served in the US Air Force from 1943-1945. Bob married Helen V. Wellnitz on April 19, 1996, at St. John Vianney Catholic Church. He worked for the US Postal Service as a letter carrier in Edgerton, for over 30 years before retiring in 1982. He was the 1973 Championship Golfer at the Towne Country Club, Edgerton, WI. Bob and his wife enjoyed traveling, especially the cruise to Alaska, and through the Panama Canal. He was a lifetime member of the Conservation Club in Edgerton, and was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose, and St. John Vianney Catholic Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, sports of all kinds, especially golf, and was a great reader and dancer.
Bob is survived by his wife, Helen; four sisters-in-law: Joyce Sweeney of Eugene, OR, Johanna Cash of Janesville, Josephine Bielenberg of Mt. Angel, OR, and Rosemary (Jim) Pakes of Janesville; two brothers-in-law, Joseph (Bea) Wellnitz and Harry Wellnitz, both of Beloit; many nieces, nephews, and close friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, William Sweeney; sister, Mary Jane Akin; brothers and sisters-in-law: Cecil Cash, Joseph Bielenberg, Inez Wellnitz, Catherine Scott, Bernard Wellnitz, Frank and Alfred Wellnitz and Cecelia Schneider.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 14, 2014, at ST. JOHN VIANNEY ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH with Msgr. Donn Heiar presiding. Interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Friday from 10 until 11 a.m. at the CHURCH. Memorials donations may be made to the St. John Vianney Endowment Fund.
