Mathilda D. “Tillie” Uschan, age 91, of Janesville, died Sunday, Feb. 9, 2014, at Cedar Crest. She was born in Lima Township, Pepin County, WI, on Oct. 21, 1922, the daughter of Henry and Emma (Schuh) Pickler. She graduated from Mondovi High School in 1940, and worked at the Mondovi Hospital and Jacobson’s grocery. Tillie married George I. Uschan on April 27, 1943, in Mondovi, WI. He preceded her in death on Dec. 14, 1998. They farmed in the Mondovi area until 1950, and then moved to Janesville. While residing in Janesville, she worked at JC Penney’s and also ran the Moose Club. After retiring they moved to Hayward, from 1979-1998, where she worked for Anglers Haven and Stonehill Resorts. Tillie was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and the Women of the Moose. She loved to play Bingo and cards and spend time at the lake. Tillie loved the time she spent with her family as well as watching deer and bear and working in her garden.

Tillie is survived by her six children: George (Shirley) Uschan of Hayward, Sharon (Larry) Rhyner, Karen Quint, and John (Linda) Uschan, all of Janesville, Charlotte (Pat) Farritor of Marathon, FL, and Jim (Brenda) Uschan of Mondovi; 15 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; 12 great great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; great granddaughter, Sydney Rhyner; and four sisters: Mildred Berg, Elizabeth Odegard, Rosella Brantner and Marion Jungwirth.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 17, 2014, at the SCHNEIDER APFEL SCHNEIDER & SCHNEIDER FUNERAL HOME and CREMATORY, Janesville. Deacon John Houseman will officiate and interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Visitation will take place on Monday from 9 a.m. until the hour of service at the SCHNEIDER APFEL SCHNEIDER & SCHNEIDER FUNERAL HOME and CREMATORY.
