Police seek information in pedestrian hit and run

JANESVILLE--Police are looking for the driver of a vehicle that hit a pedestrian Wednesday night on Highway 51 on the south edge of Janesville.

According to a police department news release:

Darren K. Hayes, 46, was walking on the roadway in the right southbound lane in front of BMO Harris Bank, 2608 S. Highway 51, at about 6:15 p.m. when he was struck by a southbound vehicle.

Hayes did not see the vehicle, which he said continued southbound without stopping. Hayes suffered a “substantial injury” to his leg. He was able to call 911 from his cellphone, but he couldn't move from the roadway until first responders arrived.

Hayes was taken to Mercy Hospital and Trauma Center, but his condition was not available.
