H.S. boys basketball: Comets hold off Whippets

Delavan-Darien took a 17-point lead into the fourth quarter on Monday, but it had to fend off Whitewater late.

Isaac Ramos made a key 3-pointer to end the Comets' lull, and they went on to beat the Whippets 60-50 in a nonconference home game on Monday night.

A 19-5 third quarter gave Delavan-Darien the big lead heading into the final eight minutes. But Whitewater would not go away, opening the fourth quarter with a 15-0 run to get back in the game.

Ramos buried his 3 to end that stretch and make it a five-point game, and Ethan Cesarz's only basket of the game came while holding off Whitewater, as well.

Isiah Ramos went 6-for-6 from the line down the stretch to seal the victory and finish with a game-high 17 points. The Comets improved to 5-15.

Scott Gorsuch scored 16 and Joey Michaels added 12 for the Whippets, who are 8-10.

Ben Rounds scored 15 points and Sean Chislom added 14 for McFarland, which improved to 10-3, tied for second place in the North.

Ned Slocum scored 15 of his game-high 20 points in the first half for the Cardinals, who fell to 1-12 in the South.
