Frederick “Fred” A. Berg, age 71, of Janesville, died on Thursday, Feb. 6, 2014, at Agrace HospiceCare, Inc., Fitchburg. He was born in Whitehall, on Oct. 18, 1942, the son of Alton and Charlotte (Dambach) Berg. He graduated from Whitehall High School and served for four years in the U.S. Navy, including doing a tour aboard the USS Wasp during the Cuban Boycott Cruise. He also served two more years in the reserves. Fred retired in October of 2001, from General Motors after 35 years, and was a member of the UAW Local 95. He loved to travel and attended his Wasp reunions every year. Fred enjoyed listening to his large collection of vinyl records, especially the classic country artists. In addition, he enjoyed time spent with family and driving his Cadillac to the Milton Ave. Subway restaurant. Fred was instrumental in encouraging his daughter, Lauri, to follow her dreams and open her own store, Knapton Music Notes. Without his support, it wouldn't have happened.
