Craig girls take over in fourth quarter
Sydney Cramer and Delaney Schoenenberger bailed out Janesville Craig’s girls basketball team Saturday night.
Craig trailed the entire game before Cramer and Schoeneberger hit two 3-pointers each in the fourth quarter to rally the Cougars past Madison Memorial, 55-45, in a Big Eight Conference game.
The Cougars trailed by 13 in the first quarter and were down six at half.
“We needed something to get us over the hump, and Sydney’s big 3 proved to be the spark we needed,” Craig coach Kerry Storbakken said. “For some reason, maybe it was coming off our big win Thursday over (Madison) La Follette, we came out flat.
“But the girls kept crawling back, and we had another big fourth quarter.”
Craig (14-4, 11-4) scored 25 points in the fourth quarter in rallying past La Follette and put 19 points on the board in the fourth against Memorial.
The Cougars remained in sole possession of third place in the Big Eight and will host first-place Middleton on Friday night.
“I’m really proud of this group,” Storbakken said. “We’ve got to 14 wins with only one senior on the team and have really come together as a team.”
Aleyha Slatter had 18 points to lead the Cougars against the Spartans, while Al Hughes added 11.
