Margaret Broderick Hoppenjan, 91, entered eternal life on Jan. 30, 2014, in Milwaukee, surrounded by family members. Born in Janesville, in Feb. 1922, to John and Adelaide Broderick, Margaret graduated from Janesville High School, then worked at Parker Pen before marrying William H. Thorn in 1941. They raised nine children on Atwood Ave. in Janesville, and were active members of Nativity of Mary Parish. After William died in 1973, Margaret earned her bachelor’s degree in nursing from UW-Madison, then worked as a visiting nurse in Janesville. Margaret particularly enjoyed making and collecting dolls, sewing, chocolate covered cherries, and grilled cheese sandwiches, reading, bridge, tennis, and praying the holy rosary. In retirement, she divided her time between winters with her daughters in Phoenix, and Sun City, and summers with other children in Milwaukee, Wausau, and Santa Clara, CA.

After William Thorn died, Margaret was widowed three more times from Henry Bieber (1980), Michael Wojdula (1987), and Paul Hoppenjan (1996). Margaret was predeceased by her brothers: John, Joseph and Francis; and two sisters, Rosemary (Walter) Nichols and Tess (Phillip) Keegan. She is survived by her sister, Patricia (Wilbert) Seefeldt of Janesville; three sisters-in-law: Verdelma (Joseph) Broderick of Beloit, Grace (John) Broderick of Minnesota, and Beverly (David) Thorn of Minnesota; by her children: Carol (Ronald) Skelton and Dr. William (Victoria) Thorn of Milwaukee, Mary Jo Thorn of Phoenix, AZ, Rev. Robert Thorn of Wausau, Kathryn Thorn of Janesville, Steven (Sharon) Thorn of Winter Haven, FL, James (Stacey) Thorn of Santa Clara, CA, Patricia (Robert) Polgreen of Elk River, MN, and Virginia (John) Baba of Phoenix, AZ. She is further survived by 27 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.

Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 8 at NATIVITY OF MARY CATHOLIC CHURCH, Janesville, with the Mass of Resurrection following at Noon. Private interment will be held at a later date.
