Holly Susan Joslin Klotz, Janesville WI, (1954-2014)
December 21 , 1954-February 3, 2014
Holly Susan Joslin Klotz, age 59, of Janesville, a beloved mother, wife, friend, and teacher, passed away peacefully in her sleep early Monday, Feb. 3, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on Dec. 21, 1954, in Janesville, to Richard Schuyler and Georgene Joy (Manning) Joslin, Holly graduated from Joseph A. Craig High School in 1973. From there she earned a degree in Education from Arizona State University. On June 18, 1977, she married Thom "Bo" Klotz at the Fourth Presbyterian Church in Chicago. The newlyweds honeymooned in Rhinelander, WI, had their first two children, and ended up staying for nine years. After moving to Palm Springs, CA., in 1985, and having a third daughter, she returned to Wisconsin in 1994, to continue raising her family. Upon her return to Janesville, Holly followed in her father, Richard's footsteps by becoming a teacher at Franklin Middle School. After Franklin, Holly went on to teach at Wilson Elementary, where she taught until her retirement. Blessed with boundless energy and a determined intellectual curiosity, Holly completed her Master's in Education at age 55 from the National College of Education at National-Louis University in between chemotherapy sessions. She was the living embodiment of her message to her students to never stop learning and living.
Holly will be remembered as a very passionate, happy, fun, and generous person with a remarkably outgoing personality. She took great pride in her work with Trees for Tomorrow, a non-profit that provided youth with an opportunity to experience nature and learn about conservation. For many years, she also helped sponsor students to attend YMCA Camp Manitowish. Holly was a loyal Badger and Packer fan, known for her enthusiasm for both the games and tailgate parties. An avid outdoorsman and traveler, Holly visited unforgettable places throughout the world and embraced new experiences. She was always ready to share an adventure with friends or soon-to-be friends, because, with Holly, strangers were never strangers for long. Her love of life and of people will be missed by all those who knew her.
Holly is survived by her loving husband, Bo Klotz of Janesville; three daughters, of whom she was very proud: Heidi (Todd) Hall of Portland, OR, Gretchen Klotz (Seamas Leddy) of San Francisco, CA, and Heather Klotz of Tacoma, WA; siblings: Diane (John) Patience of Chicago, IL, Judy (Ray) Herkert of Vancouver, WA, Peter (Tami) Joslin of Houston, TX, Elizabeth (Don) Allen of Encinitas, CA, Alice (Gary) Pickett of Irvine, CA, Nancy (Brian) Overhauser of Sonoma, CA, and Laura (Woody) Rea of Menlo Park, CA; as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
