Two third-period goals sealed Madison West’s 3-0 victory over visiting Janesville in Big Eight Conference boys hockey Thursday night.

Mick Messner had a goal and an assist to lead the Regents, who improved to 11-2 in the Big Eight.

The Bluebirds (4-6-1) outshot the Regents 13-9 in the first period but still trailed 1-0.

“We outplayed them but there was a turnover on our end and they put it in,” Bluebird coach John Mauermann said.

The Regents put it away with the two goals in the third.

“They centered the puck and it bounces off a skate in front and gets past (goalie Mike MacDougall),” Mauermann said. “Things just weren’t going our way and it kind of snowballed.”

MacDougall finished with 28 saves.

Janesville plays at Madison Memorial on Tuesday night.
