ELKHORN – U.S. Highway 12/67 is open, but traffic is slow, and semi-trucks should use alternate routes, according to an updated news release from the Walworth County Sheriff’s Office.

The affected area of U.S. Highway 12/67, near Evergreen Parkway just north of Elkhorn, was closed to all traffic after a car hit a utility pole this morning, letting wires fall across the highway.

The road was closed to both westbound traffic heading towards Whitewater/Madison and eastbound traffic heading towards Elkhorn/Lake Geneva/Illinois.

No injuries were reported in the accident, but nearby residences and businesses may lose power.

To avoid the area, sheriff's officials are advising drivers to use I-43 to exit at Wisconsin Highway 20, heading west back to the intersection of U.S. 12/20/67 until further notice from the south, and to use Wisconsin Highway 20 east from the U.S. 12/20/67 split to I-43 from the north.
