Elkhorn graduate Kyle Hoskins tallied his second double-double in as many games to help the UW-Rock County men’s basketball team get a road victory on Monday night.

Hoskins scored 16 points and added 15 rebounds as the Rattlers built a big first-half lead and held on for a 94-81 victory at UW-Richland Center.

UW-Rock was up 22 points at halftime but had to hold on late as Richland Center got back within 11 points.

“It was an excellent first half, and our defense was great,” Rattlers coach Scott Lee said. “But we gave up 56 points in the second half.”

Elkhorn graduate Danny Dessent added 18 points, seven assists and five rebounds for UW-Rock, which improved to 6-2 in Wisconsin Collegiate Conference play.

Women’s college basketball

• UW-Richland Center 87, UW-Rock 83 (OT)—The teams were forced to play four-on-three late in overtime of a foul-plagued game.

The Rattlers began the game with eight players, but five fouled out.

“It was one of the more unbelievable games I’ve been a part of,” Lee said. “They went to the line 49 times.

“We missed too many free throws. We shot the ball 93 times, but shot just 31 percent, We turned them over 33 times, but we didn’t win.”

Fort Atkinson native Lexie Weigand scored a team-high 32 points for UW-Rock. Evansville’s Leeanna Kinney added a dozen.

The men’s and women’s teams host their final home doubleheader of the season on Saturday against UW-Marshfield.
