Montrelle Presley made sure the UW-Barron County men’s basketball team would not leave Janesville with the undefeated Wisconsin Collegiate Conference record it came in with Saturday afternoon.

Presley scored 37 points in 29 minutes to spark the Rattlers to a 99-87 victory. The victory pulls the second-place Rattlers (5-2) one game behind Barron County (6-1).

Presley joined the team at the semester break and has given the team a scoring threat. The 5-foot-10 guard hit five of seven 3-pointers and 16 of 27 field-goal attempts. He added five offensive rebounds and six steals.

“He has a chance to go places,” Coach Scott Lee said.

UW-Rock County jumped on the visitors early and took a 58-37 halftime lead. Barron County rallied and got to within seven points with five minutes left.

“It was really dicey,” Lee said. “But we hit free throws and hung on.”

Elkhorn High graduates Danny Dessent and Kyle Hoskins also played major roles in the win.

Dessent, the team’s point guard, scored 14 points and had 10 assists, with only two late turnovers, Hoskins had 17 points and 13 rebounds.

Safarii Hunt added 13 points and Mike Moss added 10.

Both the men’s and women’s teams will be at UW-Richland on Monday night.
