Craig girls start strong, cruise to win against Beloit
The starters set the tone for the Janesville Craig girls basketball team on Saturday night.
The Cougars scored the first 12 points of the game and raced away with a 61-38 Big Eight Conference road victory over Beloit Memorial.
“I’m just happy with the way the kids came out,” Craig coach Kerry Storbakken said. “We just talked about playing with energy and enthusiasm. And they came out ready to play.”
The Cougars (12-4, 9-4) led by 18 at the break and opened the second half with another strong run, this time scoring the first eight points.
Craig junior guard Al Hughes led all scorers with 16 points, including four 3-pointers.
Sophomore Delaney Schoenenberger added six buckets for a dozen points.
“Delaney got a lot of rebounds,” Storbakken said. “She’s a tough cookie; she scraps for those boards. And she’s left-handed, and she could put it right in.”
India Dorsey led Beloit with 10 points.
Craig is back in action Thursday, hosting Madison La Follette in a battle for third place in the Big Eight.
