Rock Valley roundup: Whitewater edges Parkview

Joey Michaels hit a 7-foot shot at the buzzer to give Whitewater a 46-44 victory over visiting Orfordville Parkview in a Rock Valley Conference crossover game Friday night.

The game went back and forth throughout the second half. The Vikings’ Garrett Reinhardt tied the game with a basket with about 20 seconds left that set up Michaels’ heroics.

Brett Harms led the nine Whippets who scored with 11 points.

Nolan Masterson scored 16 points, including four 3-pointers, to lead the Vikings. James Wellnitz added 12.

• Clinton 56, East Troy 54—Marc Eliszewski hit a 3-pointer with about one minute left to give the Cougars the lead for good as they picked up a critical crossover road victory.

Eliszewski’s 3 put Clinton up by one, and a pair of Eric DeLong free throws moved the lead to three points. When East Troy missed a 3-pointer, Clinton guard Luke Risse grabbed the rebound and was fouled. He made both free throws and the Trojans hit a 3 at the buzzer to close out the game.

The victory moved Clinton to 4-6 and into a three-way tie atop the Rock Valley South with Big Foot and Parkview.

DeLong led Clinton with 13 points and added 11 rebounds. Jacob Growel had 18 for East Troy, which fell to 8-3 in the North.

 Big Foot 57, Jefferson 53—The Chiefs moved into the three-way tie in the Rock Valley South by outscoring the host Eagles 20-12 in the third quarter and then holding on.

Vinny Cincotta, who scored a game-high 29 points for Jefferson, pulled his team within three points with just under a minute left, but Big Foot’s Nate Freytag helped put the game away at the free-throw line late.

Freytag finished with a team-high 15 points, while Chandler Hehr had 11 and Daniel Pearce pitched in 10.

 McFarland 54, Palmyra-Eagle 25—The Spartans held the visiting Panthers to a field goal in the first half en route to an easy victory.

Ben Rounds scored 14 of his 22 points in the first quarter when McFarland took a 22-0 lead and eventually improved to 8-3 in the Rock Valley North and 9-7 overall.

Nathaniel Behr scored 12 of the Panthers’ 25 points.

 Evansville 64, Brodhead 43—The Blue Devils rolled past the visiting Cardinals behind double-figure scoring from three players.

Brennen Banks had 14 points, Josh Chenoweth had 13 and Kyle Rutkowski added 11 for the Blue Devils.

Ned Slocum led Brodhead with 18 points, all in the first three quarters.
