John C. W. Rindfleisch, 82, of Clinton, WI, died Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2014, at Alden Meadow Park in Clinton. He was born Feb. 2, 1931, to John F. and Evelyn (Barden) Rindfleisch in Beloit. John was a 1949 graduate of Beloit High School. He joined the National Guard and, then, enlisted in the Air Force in Jan. 1950. He was discharged in Nov. 1954, as a staff sergeant, having served his last two years in Japan. John married Gloria Peglow on April 28, 1956, at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Beloit. He worked for F.W. Woolworth for six years in the Milwaukee area, and in Sioux City, IA. John moved his family back to Beloit, and, then, worked for General Motors for 10 years. He owned the Rindfleisch Greenhouse & Floral Shop on Hwy X in Clinton. In 1972, the business expanded to include the True Value Hardware Store in downtown Clinton. The downtown business was sold in 1998, and the greenhouse was closed upon John and Gloria's retirement in 2000. He was a life member of the Clinton American Legion and the Clinton VFW. John was a member of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church in Clinton, serving many years on the church council, including serving as president of the congregation. He was a volunteer firefighter for 10 years and an EMT for four years with the Clinton Fire District. John was a member and past president of the Clinton Kiwanis Club.

From 1984 to 2006, John and Gloria enjoyed Square Dancing as members of the Petunia City Square Dance Club in Beloit. They danced all over the State of Wisconsin, and northern Illinois. They attended 22 Wisconsin State Conventions and were the General Chairmen of the 1991 Wisconsin Square Dance Convention in Madison. They also attended several Illinois State Conventions and National Conventions. They made many great friendships through square dancing. John enjoyed family gatherings at their cottage in Tomahawk, WI, playing cards with family and friends, fishing, and hunting. He especially enjoyed gardening, watching and feeding birds, wildlife, and the outdoors.

John is survived by his wife, Gloria; three children: Sue (Randy) Risseeuw, John (Diane) Rindfleisch and Karen (Dan) Kraemer; eight grandchildren: Carryn (Nick) Nugent, Sondra Funk, Christine (Jeremy) Halverson, Dylan (Lauren) Nass, Jameson (Diedra) Nass, John P.D. Rindfleisch, Daniel Kraemer, and Morgan Kraemer; five great-grandchildren: Dominic and Devlyn Halverson, Clayton Nugent, Willa Nass, and John Wylly Nass; a sister, Janet Juliao of Beloit; and a brother, Carl (Donna) Rindfleisch of Wild Rose, WI. John was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Douglas Rindfleisch.

John's Memorial Service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 1, 2014, at CHRIST EVANGELICAL LUTHERAN CHURCH, 300 High Street, Clinton, with Rev. Gary E. Schockman and Rev. William Uffenbeck as officiates. Friends may greet the family on Saturday at the CHURCH from 9:30 a.m. until time of service. Memorials in John's name may be given to Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church elevator fund, Clinton Fire Department, or the Clinton EMS.
