Thank you for your Saturday editorial, “New fund could make difference in city’s future.”

It is wonderful of you to recognize the work of the Community Foundation’s early board members, but the list is not complete without the names of Steve King and Carolyn Mowbray. It is even more gratifying to read about Bryan Steil and others of a new generation, stepping forward to carry on the founders’ dream.

The Community Foundation of Southern Wisconsin serves citizens of the entire Gazette circulation territory, and then some. Under the foundation’s umbrella, several cities smaller than Janesville, have started similar funds in the Community Foundation to meet local needs.

This new Janesville Community Fund is another arm of the foundation, one more example of the many ways the foundation serves our city. Other funds provide many scholarships for our high school graduates, school programs, building campaigns, support for community projects of every size, and endowments for many public organizations.

I heartily agree with your conclusion, “…donations to the Janesville Community Fund would be another way to make this city a better place to live, work and raise families.” Donations large and small are fully tax-deductible. Coming from individuals, groups and businesses, these gifts will help us support projects for education, health, employment and even downtown improvement.

Thank you again for this opportunity to share my thoughts.

EDITOR’S NOTE: Dunwiddie is one of the founding board members of the Community Foundation of Southern Wisconsin.
