Gov. Scott Walker declares state of emergency on propane shortage
Citing another wave of frigid weather bearing down on Wisconsin and "dangerously low" supplies of propane, Gov. Scott Walker on Saturday declared a state of emergency and authorized the possible call-up of National Guard troops.
Walker directed all state agencies "to assist as appropriate" in helping residents deal with the propane shortage, which has sent prices soaring and left some users struggling to find a supplier who will provide fuel.
It wasn't clear early Saturday evening what specific steps might be taken, or what the National Guard might do.
Walker's declaration included a call to active duty "such elements of the Wisconsin National Guard as the Adjutant General deems necessary to assist civil authorities for purposes of assisting in response and recovery efforts as well as provide security and other essential services.”
